Bali

Bali has diving for every level, most of it on the east coast. The USAT Liberty, a Second World War cargo ship at Tulamben, lies a short swim from the beach, and Blue Lagoon at Padang Bai is a calm, shallow reef that suits new divers.

About diving in Bali

Both are rated for beginners in mild current: the USAT Liberty Wreck from 5 to 30 m, and Blue Lagoon from 5 to 25 m. The Liberty was torpedoed in 1942, beached at Tulamben, and pushed into the sea by the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963. It is now covered in coral.

Nusa Penida, for manta rays and mola mola, is a day trip by boat from Sanur. Bali is dived all year, and April to October, the dry season, brings the calmest water and the best visibility.
