About Tulamben Drop Off

Tulamben Drop Off, also called Tulamben Wall, is a wall at the east end of Tulamben Bay in Bali, formed by lava from Mount Agung's 1963 eruption. It drops from the shallows past 60 metres, covered in corals, sea fans and sponges, with frogfish and pygmy seahorses.

Tulamben Drop Off, also known as Tulamben Wall, sits at the eastern end of Tulamben Bay on Bali's east coast. The wall was formed by lava from the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, and it falls from just below the surface to beyond 60 metres. Most divers stay above 30 metres, where the best of it is.

Corals, gorgonian sea fans and sponges cover the wall. Look closely for frogfish and, deeper down, pygmy seahorses on the fans. Black and whitetip reef sharks patrol, schools of trevally and bumphead parrotfish sometimes pass, and the shallows are thick with reef fish.

It is a shore dive with little current and visibility often between 15 and 30 metres, clearest in the morning. You set your own depth along the wall, so it suits newer divers in the shallows and experienced divers going deeper.
