Komodo

Komodo National Park, reached from Labuan Bajo on Flores, is known for drift diving in strong current. Nutrient rich water flows between the islands, so the reefs hold large schools of fish, reef sharks and Napoleon wrasse, and manta rays gather at Manta Point.

About diving in Komodo

Most sites are for advanced divers: Batu Bolong, a small rock packed with fish, and the pinnacles of Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, all from 5 to 30 m. Tatawa Kecil is rated expert. Manta Point, also called Makassar Reef, is an easier drift from 5 to 18 m that suits beginners.

Komodo is dived all year. April to November, the dry season, usually brings calmer seas and the best visibility, and mantas gather at Manta Point in the greatest numbers from December to March.
