About Manta Point

Manta Point, also called Makassar Reef, often spelled Makasar Reef, or Karang Makassar in Indonesian, is the longest dive site in Komodo National Park and a cleaning station for manta rays, seen here all year in groups of 3 to 30 or more.

The reef stretches over 2.5 kilometres between Tatawa Besar and Komodo Island. It is shallow, with a mostly flat bottom, gently sloping coral and sandy patches where the mantas come to be cleaned.

It is dived as a relatively easy drift with medium current, which suits beginners as well as experienced divers, and snorkellers come here too. Besides mantas, look for turtles, reef sharks, eagle rays, cuttlefish, snapper and nudibranchs.
