About Batu Bolong

Batu Bolong is a volcanic pinnacle in Komodo National Park between Tatawa Kecil and Komodo Island. The top of the rock breaks the surface, giving a sheltered side to dive in the strong, changeable currents around it.

The pinnacle is covered in soft corals, sponges and gorgonians, with overhangs, crevices and swim throughs. Dense schools of reef fish crowd the water around it, and reef sharks and giant groupers patrol.

Because of the current, divers follow a zigzag route to stay in the sheltered zone. Turtles and smaller reef fish fill the shallows, while the deeper sections, down to about 30 metres, are where Napoleon wrasse, dogtooth tuna and snapper turn up.

Batu Bolong is rated advanced. Strong, shifting currents make it a dive for experienced divers who follow their guide closely.
