About Coral Garden Tulamben

Coral Garden is a shallow reef near the USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben, east Bali, where coral begins at 2 metres among sunken Balinese statues and steel frames planted for coral regrowth. Calm, easy shore diving makes it a favourite for beginners and snorkellers.

Coral Garden is the shallow reef just along the beach from the USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben, on Bali's east coast. The coral starts at about 2 metres, with anemone fields close to the surface, and the reef slopes gently to around 18 metres, though most of the dive stays near 10.

What makes it different is what has been placed here. Balinese statues, figures of the Buddha and Hindu gods among them, stand across the sand and reef, and steel structures laid down in a coral restoration project after an El Niño die-off are now grown over. Together they act as an artificial reef, busy with reef fish.

It is a shore dive with calm water and good visibility, which makes it popular for training dives, first dives and snorkelling. Getting in and out over the beach stones can be awkward when there is swell.
