About Gili Selang

Gili Selang is a small island at Bali's easternmost point, beyond Amed, with untouched hard and soft corals and some of Bali's strongest and least predictable currents. Jacks, tuna and reef sharks make it a drift for experienced divers only.

Gili Selang is a small island just off Bali's easternmost point, past Amed. Few operators go there, so the reef is untouched and there are rarely other divers.

Boats drop divers in the bay on the north side, where a gentle slope is covered in hard and soft corals and reef fish. When the current allows, the dive follows the island's edge, where the slope turns into a wall, past the cape and into a sheltered cove on the south side, where reef sharks rest under coral boulders.

The current is strong and unpredictable, sometimes downward, and conditions can turn from calm to rough in minutes. Jacks, tuna and sharks come with it, and the water is colder than at Amed's other sites. Shops take only experienced divers, some asking for at least 100 logged dives.
