About Jemeluk Bay

Jemeluk Bay in Amed, east Bali, is a sheltered bay with an underwater shrine at 3 to 4 metres and a garden of sculptures, from apsaras and mermaids to an underwater postbox. Its shallow reef suits beginners and snorkellers.

Jemeluk Bay is the heart of Amed, on Bali's east coast, and one of its easiest dives. A short swim from the beach, in front of the warungs, an underwater shrine known as Pura Subak sits at just 3 to 4 metres, its small stone statues and temple structures clear enough to see from the surface.

Around it the bay has become a sculpture garden: a giant baby's head, apsaras or Hindu water nymphs, mermaids, treasure chests and a Barong, all slowly being taken over by coral and fish. There is even a working postbox, where divers post waterproof postcards bought on the beach.

The bay is sheltered and shallow, mostly under 18 metres, which makes it a good place for first dives and snorkelling. The deeper Jemeluk Wall next door is a separate dive for more experienced divers.
