About Boga Wreck

The Boga Wreck is a cargo ship of about 40 metres sunk on purpose in 2012 off Kubu, just north of Tulamben in east Bali. It sits upright on a black sand slope from about 15 to 38 metres, with a Volkswagen car inside its lowest deck.

The Boga Wreck, also called the Kubu Wreck, lies off the village of Kubu, a few kilometres north of Tulamben on Bali's east coast. The ship, about 40 metres long, was sunk on purpose in 2012, by most accounts (a few shops give 2011), to make an artificial reef, and it now sits upright on a black sand slope reached from the beach.

The deck lies at around 15 to 20 metres and the deepest parts go past 35 metres. Its three decks were cleaned before sinking so trained divers can go inside, and a Volkswagen Safari car sits on the lowest deck. Hard and soft corals, sponges and gorgonian fans have grown over the hull.

Barracuda, bumphead parrotfish, blue-spotted stingrays, octopuses and moray eels live on the wreck, and reef sharks pass at depth. Because of the depth it suits Advanced divers, and it is a favourite for wreck specialty courses.
