About Gili Biaha

Gili Biaha is a U-shaped rock island off Candidasa in east Bali, best known for its Shark Cave at 12 metres, where whitetip reef sharks rest by day. Coral-covered cliffs drop to about 40 metres, and the currents can be strong.

Gili Biaha is a small rock island at the eastern end of Amuk Bay, off Candidasa on Bali's east coast, about 30 minutes by boat from Padang Bai. It is shaped like a U, open to the ocean.

At 12 metres a 5 by 5 metre opening leads 18 metres into the rock and opens into a domed cave, the Shark Cave, where whitetip reef sharks rest during the day. Outside, terraced cliffs covered in hard and soft corals, fans and sponges level out at about 40 metres.

The island's exposed side brings pelagics in from the open ocean, and mola mola can be seen in the dry season. Currents can be very strong around full and new moon, and it can't be dived in a big swell, so it is for experienced divers.
