About Jepun

Jepun is a dive at the northeastern corner of Amuk Bay, 15 minutes by boat from Padang Bai in east Bali, with a fishing boat sunk in 2008 at 18 metres and Buddha statues at 10 metres. Moray eels, stingrays and rare crustaceans live on the artificial reef.

Jepun, or Tanjung Jepun, lies at the northeastern corner of Amuk Bay, about 15 minutes by boat from Padang Bai past the Blue Lagoon. Its name is Balinese for the frangipani flower.

The dive starts in a shallow sandy area and follows a rubble slope to a steel fishing boat at 18 metres, sunk on purpose in 2008 as an artificial reef and now well overgrown. Big moray eels live on it, a school of catfish shelters under the deck, and stingrays rest beneath the hull.

A line of rebar leads south to meditating Buddha statues at 10 metres, where mantis shrimps and rare crustaceans, even harlequin shrimp, hide. With gentle conditions it suits every level.
