About Amed Pyramids

The Amed Pyramids are an artificial reef of hollow concrete pyramids on a coral slope near Jemeluk, in Amed on Bali's east coast. They sit at about 5 to 28 metres and shelter young fish, turtles and macro life, usually on a gentle drift.

The Pyramids are an artificial reef off Amed, close to Jemeluk Bay on Bali's east coast. More than 15 hollow concrete pyramids, about 3 metres tall, were laid along the slope, half artificial reef and half natural, and after years underwater they are covered in sponges and coral.

The structures sit at about 5 to 28 metres and work as a nursery: clouds of glassfish, juvenile boxfish and angelfish shelter inside. Leaf scorpionfish, pygmy seahorses, ribbon eels and moray eels live on and around them, and hawksbill turtles visit. It is a favourite with photographers.

Most shops dive it by boat or jukung as a drift, often paired with the Jemeluk wall. The current is usually gentle to moderate, so it suits most levels.
