About Shark Point

Shark Point is one of Gili Trawangan's best known dive sites, off the island's northwest coast. A coral plateau at about 10 metres slopes down to sandy canyons at 30 to 35 metres, with ridges, valleys and a few small walls along the way.

As the name says, it is one of the best places around the Gili Islands to see white tip and black tip reef sharks, resting under coral bommies or cruising the deeper canyons. Green sea turtles are so common, resting on sandy ledges or swimming over the reef, that locals joke it should be called Turtle Point.

Divers also see schools of trevally, dogtooth tuna, barracuda and snapper, and bumphead parrotfish around the full moon. In the shallows look for ribbon eels, octopus, cuttlefish, blue spotted stingrays and scorpionfish among the sea fans, stony corals and barrel sponges.

When a current runs, the site is dived as a drift. It is rated beginner on Scubalo, and most of the dive can be kept shallow while the canyons are there for experienced divers.
