Melissa's Garden lies in the Fam Islands, also called Penemu, in the west of Raja Ampat. The reef is nestled between three small limestone islands, its top at about 8 to 12 metres and its slope running down to a sandy bottom at 25 metres. It is famous for its hard corals, which cover the reef as far as you can see, with gullies, overhangs and soft corals on the rock formations.

Schooling fish and barracuda swim over the reef, bumphead parrotfish and hawksbill turtles graze it, and blacktip reef sharks and red-toothed triggerfish are common. The coral also holds plenty of macro life, from nudibranchs to crustaceans and moray eels.

The current is usually mild, so this is an easy, unhurried dive, and the shallow coral is at its best in good light.
