Pintu Kota

Pintu Kota means gate of the city. The name comes from the cliff above the water, where a large rock juts into the sea with a hole worn through it to form an arch. The dive repeats that shape below the surface. An archway lies at roughly 15 to 17 metres, thick with sea fans and gorgonians, and most of the dive is spent working around and through it. On the far side the slope falls away steeply into deep water. Divers usually finish on the highest point of the arch at about 7 metres. Average depth over the dive is around 12 metres, with a maximum near 30 metres.

The site lies at the hamlet of Airlouw in Nusaniwe district, on the southwest tip of Ambon, roughly 45 minutes by road from the city. The gorgonians and sea fans on the arch make this a wide angle dive rather than a macro one, which sets it apart from the muck slopes inside Ambon Bay. Reef fish gather around the structure, and the steep drop beside the arch brings the chance of something larger passing in the blue. Currents can pick up here, so most operators run it as a drift and pair it with a second dive along the same south coast.
