About The Cathedral

The Cathedral is a large pinnacle off Belongas Bay, southwest Lombok, rising from deep water to the surface, with a steep wall of soft coral and sponges, yellow sea cucumbers and sea snakes.

The Cathedral, off Belongas Bay in southwest Lombok, is a large pinnacle that rises from deep water to the surface, where only a small rock shows above the waves. Sources put its base at 40 to 60 metres. Crashing waves fill the top 5 metres with bubbles, and the dive follows a steep wall covered in soft coral, sponges and tunicates.

Yellow sea cucumbers are everywhere on the wall, and sea snakes are a regular sight, including the banded sea krait. Swell moves divers up and down throughout the dive, so ascents are made by swimming away from the rock.
