About Police Pier

Police Pier is a muck dive around a jetty on the Sulawesi side of the Lembeh Strait, named after a nearby police station. Among the debris live harlequin shrimps, painted frogfish, waspfish and an anemone sheltering hundreds of Banggai cardinalfish.

Police Pier takes its name from a police station near the jetty on the Sulawesi side of the Lembeh Strait. It is not a pretty site: there is a lot of rubbish on the bottom. But as so often in Lembeh, that debris is where the animals hide.

Waspfish shelter under the pier's columns and painted frogfish, sometimes several on one dive, sit among the junk. Harlequin shrimps have been found feeding on blue starfish, and in the shallows under the jetty a large anemone hosts hundreds of Banggai cardinalfish. Scorpionfish, barramundi cod, crustaceans and many nudibranchs fill out the dive, and at night humpback scorpionfish and bobbit worms come out.

The dive is shallow and easy, with little current, so it suits beginners.
