About Aer Prang

Aer Prang is a muck dive on the Sulawesi side of the Lembeh Strait: a small beach with a flat, sandy area in front where bobtail squid, frogfish, octopus and seahorses turn up, and where Rhinopias have been seen. It is at its best at night.

Aer Prang lies on the mainland side of the Lembeh Strait, off a small beach with a flat area of dark sand in front. There is little reef to speak of. The animals live in and on the sand, which makes it a classic Lembeh muck dive and a favourite for night dives.

After dark the sand comes alive with bobtail squid, octopuses, small nocturnal scorpionfish, frogfish, shrimps and crabs, and large red and white nudibranchs that stay buried in the sand by day. Common seahorses are often found on the shallow sandy flats, and Rhinopias have been reported here too.

It is a shallow, easy dive with little or no current, so it suits beginners. Good buoyancy matters more than experience: stay just off the sand and move slowly.
