Site description
Batu Bolong is one of the most iconic and spectacular dive sites in Komodo National Park. It is a volcanic pinnacle rising sharply from the depths between Tatawa Kecil and Komodo Islands, with the top of the rock breaking the surface to provide a sheltered lee. Known for its vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life, it is a hotspot for experienced divers who can handle strong and changeable currents.
The site delivers exhilarating diving with its dense schools of reef fish creating the impression of a swirling “fish soup.” Diverse species thrive here, including large pelagic fish, reef sharks, and giant groupers. The site features overhangs, crevices, and swim-throughs with a dazzling array of soft corals, sponges, and colorful gorgonians.
Because of the strong currents, divers usually follow a zigzag route to stay within a safe zone. The shallows are alive with turtles and smaller reef fish, while the deeper sections (up to 30 meters/100 feet) are frequented by napoleon wrasse, dogtooth tuna, and snapper.
