an underwater view of a coral reef in the ocean
Site Description

Tatawa Kecil is a stunning and challenging dive site located in the heart of Komodo National Park. Situated south of Tatawa Besar, it is known for strong, sometimes very strong currents, making it suitable only for advanced and experienced divers. The site features fascinating underwater topography with rock formations, caves, swim-throughs, and large coral fields, including vibrant hard and soft corals. The area resembles an underwater cityscape with bommies acting like skyscrapers bustling with marine life. Diving here offers encounters with an abundance of pelagic fish, including eagle rays, giant trevallies, sharks, napoleon wrasse, bumphead parrotfish, batfish, snappers, groupers, sea snakes, dogtooth and giant tuna, barracudas, moray eels, and occasionally manta rays and dugongs. The site has a shallow plateau and pristine coral gardens, with spectacular biodiversity. Due to the currents and technical features, proper drift diving skills and buoyancy control are essential. Snorkeling is generally not recommended because of the currents, but nearby Tatawa Besar offers good snorkeling options.
