Hairball

Hairball is the house reef of Dive Into Lembeh, a resort in Kasawari Bay on the mainland side of the Lembeh Strait that was formerly named Hairball Resort after the site itself. It is one of the four most-dived sites in the strait and a textbook example of Lembeh's muck diving: a black sand slope between 5 and 25 metres, littered with debris that algae and sponges quickly colonise, giving the site's many camouflaged residents good cover.

Hairy frogfish sightings here are close to guaranteed, and divers regularly find flamboyant cuttlefish, mimic octopus and wonderpus alongside a rotating cast of crabs and other crustaceans. A second, similar site nearby known as Hairball 2 adds juvenile batfish, cardinalfish and zebra crabs to the mix. Visibility runs 5 to 20 metres and currents are typically weak, making it an easy, photography-friendly dive for macro hunters of any experience level.
